With restrictions increasing with regard to organic farming standards, multiple chemicals and fertilisers can no longer be used by farmers, which means alternatives need to be found. Clover works as a replacement for synthetic nitrogen fertilizer. It captures nitrogen gas, necessary for plants to grow, from the air and and adds it back to the soil.
Clover has other great benefits. The plant is great for wildlife - bees and insects are attracted to flowering clover pollen and nectar. It is also important for livestock producers as it is high in protein and easily digestible, which makes it a good source of home-grown protein in fields.
