Comfrey: Make your own fertiliser

Comfrey leaves are full of vital nutrients: it’s easy to turn them into an excellent (and free!) liquid fertiliser.

Comfrey: Make your own fertiliser

Comfrey is one of the best plants for organic gardeners. The garden comfrey plant can be used for making fertiliser, speed up composting process and control weeds as it has a higher content of nutrients than the common wild comfrey.

To make your own comfrey fertiliser you need to follow these steps:

  • Cut off the leaves
  • Place comfrey leaves into a bucket of water (proportion is 1kg of comfrey leaves to 15 litres of water)
  • Make sure leaves are covered with water and close the container
  • The liquid fertiliser is ready in 4-6 weeks
