Happy International Women's Day!
Today we would like to celebrate all women and to acknowledge the contribution of those in the UK organic sector. We would like to thank them for their hard work in promoting organic across various industries.
Mary Mead - co-founder of Yeo Valley, the UK's largest organic brand established in 1994. The range includes organic yogurts, cream, milk, butter, cheese, ice cream and compotes. Mary Mead is an extraordinary woman, who won the title of Farmer of the Year at the Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards.
Susie Hewson - founder of Natracare. Natracare was created as a campaign to shake up the menstrual products industry and finally provide viable, eco-friendly alternatives for periods. Susie is an eco-warrior, a pioneer, and a creator of the world's first brand of organic & natural period products.
Clare Marriage - co- founder of Doves Farm Foods, an organic and gluten-free foods business. Clare and her husband established Doves Farm Foods on a budget of just £1,000, initially making organic wholegrain and gluten-free flour. Today, they sell 47 types of flour and gluten-free foods, such as breakfast cereals, pastas and cookies.
Maria and Lisa Dawson, who run Clearspring, a family business and since 1993, have been committed to pioneering authentic Japanese specialities and organic fine foods. Their products make a valuable contribution to sustainable agriculture by supporting organic farmers, artisan food producers and plant-based diets.
Helen Browning OBE, DL is an organic livestock and arable farmer in Wiltshire, England, and Chief Executive of the Soil Association. Helen was awarded an OBE in 1998 for her services to organic farming and made Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire in 2015. Helen is dedicated to promoting organic farming in the UK. Helen Browning's Organic is a home for award winning organic meat.
